Advanced Surgical Procedures
At Advanced Surgical Practice, Dr. Kevin Christian provides comprehensive general surgery, robotic and minimally invasive surgery, and trauma surgery for patients throughout Joplin, Neosho, and Pittsburg. Below is an overview of the conditions and procedures we treat.
Robotic & Minimally Invasive Surgery
We use robotic and minimally invasive techniques for many of the procedures we perform, whenever they're appropriate for the patient. Compared to traditional open surgery, these approaches typically offer smaller incisions, less postoperative pain, a shorter hospital stay, and a faster return to normal activities. During robotic surgery, Dr. Christian controls every movement of the instruments in real time, combining hands-on surgical skill with enhanced precision and visualization.
Colorectal Surgery
From diverticulitis to colon resections, we provide surgical treatment for a range of benign and malignant colorectal conditions, with an emphasis on minimally invasive approaches whenever they're appropriate for the patient's diagnosis.
Minimally Invasive Hernia Repair
We treat hernias throughout the abdominal wall — including inguinal, umbilical, and incisional hernias — using both minimally invasive and open techniques, chosen based on each patient's anatomy, hernia size, and individual risk factors.
Gallbladder Surgery (Cholecystectomy)
Gallstones and gallbladder disease are among the most common reasons patients need surgery. Using minimally invasive and robotic techniques, we remove the gallbladder through several small incisions, allowing most patients to go home the same day.
Small Intestine Surgery
We provide surgical treatment for benign and malignant conditions affecting the small intestine, using minimally invasive techniques when appropriate to reduce recovery time and postoperative discomfort.
Foregut & Anti-Reflux Surgery
A hiatal hernia occurs when part of the stomach pushes up through the diaphragm, often contributing to chronic acid reflux. When symptoms don't improve with medication, surgical repair can restore normal anatomy and provide lasting relief. For patients with chronic acid reflux that hasn't responded to lifestyle changes or medication, we offer minimally invasive and robotic surgical options designed to reduce or eliminate reflux symptoms long-term.
Adrenal Surgery
We perform surgical treatment of adrenal gland conditions, using minimally invasive and robotic techniques designed to minimize surgical trauma and support faster recovery.
Spleen Surgery
We provide surgical management of spleen conditions, including minimally invasive removal (splenectomy) when clinically appropriate.
Pancreas Surgery
We offer surgical treatment for select pancreatic conditions, with treatment plans tailored to the complexity and nature of each individual case.
Anorectal Disorders and Pilonidal Surgery
We evaluate and treat a range of anorectal conditions, offering surgical solutions when conservative treatment has not resolved symptoms. For Pilonidal disease, we offer surgical treatment for pilonidal cystic disease, including care for recurrent or more complicated cases.
Skin Masses & Skin Cancer Surgery
We provide surgical removal of skin masses and skin cancers, with careful attention to both thorough treatment and cosmetic outcome.
Trauma Surgery & Surgical Critical Care
Dr. Christian is fellowship trained in Trauma Surgery & Surgical Critical Care and provides expert surgical care for traumatic injuries, working closely with Freeman Health System's emergency medicine and critical care teams to manage urgent surgical needs.
